I have a new PMAX which is awsome. However, yesterday I shot a friends longbow and it seemed I couldn't miss. What would I pick up or lose by going to a longbow?

It's all shooter preference.
Longbows generally are lighter, quieter, and more forgiving to shooter errors.
Recurves generally are smoother, faster, and more manuverable.
I shot recurves for 12 years and enjoyed them. As soon as I shot a longbow for the first time, I put down the recurves.
If you are in doubt, buy a PL. If you do not like it, you can always give it to me and go back to your PMAX!!

I am kinda the other way, I do shoot my PL well but the PSA is so stable, I can shoot it much more consistantly , probably has to do with the mass weight of the recurve and it is harder to torque than a longbow for me anyway..and for me a recurve is the more forgiving bow.. my plv of the same weight, (63@28) as my PSAII is about 5fps slower which is no big deal, just shows a little performance diffrence.

Just picked up my first Widow longbow, and the recurves are gonna have to collect dust for a while. I've shot, and own, plenty of other longbows, but those PL's are a pure joy to shoot!!

shot longbows almost exclusively for 20 years and recenty started using the recurve again; They are both great to shoot and I will switch back and forth now, depending on my mind set at the time/ hunting situation. For me I can do better with repeated groups with the recurve but in the one shot hunting situation the longbow wins out for me.

I think its hard to compare the two. They both have their place, but I own several longbows and when I shoot both my recurves and PLV it's hard to stop shooting it. To me a long bow is much nicer to shoot and feels better in the hand, although the new long bows of today have zero handshock and no elbow fatigue.
My PLV is a real thing of beauty and so are my recurves. If I had to make a choice, I dont think I could, widow bows are amazing no matter what style.
If you are thinking of making the PL purchase, I would highly recommend it, you will never be disappointed.
Cheers,
Harley

forgot to add this;
You'd pick up beauty, quietness, smootness and speed with a widow longbow, any other maker you'd probably see a big drop in speed,
you'd lose maneuverabily from the length. I cant use mine in my blind, its too long, but in my tree stand it works well, a bit of maneuvering to make a shot but managable.

You'd pick up another bow, what would be wrong with that?

Gilly--you say you can't use a LB in your blind? I have a DB recurve model--is that too small for a LB--say 62 or 64" length? I don't have a problem with my 58" PSA or 60" PMA. Although, I prefer my lower poundange and shorter PSA in the blind. I don't think I would have a problem shooting a 62 or 64" LB sitting down, but I need to try that before spending a grand that could go towards a new KTM EXC!

My main problem is that the good lord gave me the arms of a spider monkey....lol...I have to sit in the corner of my blind so I can reach across without my bow touching the shooting window.......I am going to buy another blind this weekend, something in an extra fat guy tall and long version.
I'm 6'3" and 265lbs of glistening cellulite, I need a fat guy blind that's wide and tall.
Cheers,
Harley

You'd be surprised Harley, I have a recurve model Dark Horse and can shoot a 64" longbow with room to spare. I sit towards the back anyway because it gives more limb clearance than when jammed up front. Getting ready to go out back and set it up now in a new spot.

I like them both too and made a pledge to put down the LB and hunt with the recurves this season. Six does later I'm tempted to fudge and go back out with the longbow. Shots are breath smelling close at my current best spot at only 7-8' above ground and one of the PAX's is 54#@28 and really sweet. I'd hate to get busted at half or full draw holding 83#.

You would loose mass weight for sure as wellas the mechanical advatage of the recurve design.
