i have a psa that is 60 inches 50# @ 29. i actually draw like 27 inches. so here is the big project question. i plan to make some bacote footed shafts for this bow. my footing blanks are 8 inches total. 4 inches are the four splice tapered legs and the other 4 inches is solid shaft diameter. my tip wt is 125gr. when ordering shafts, what species and spine wt should i order? those damn feets really make this tuff huh?

so we can figure the weight of the foot to require more spine. or you can look at the 8 inches of bacote to act stiffer than the cedar. thereby making the arrow "shorter" by eight inches will up spine as well. who knows about tuning footed shafts?

Mikie, I'll at least respond so you don't think you're alone. I really have no experience with footed shafts. I think you're headed in to experimentation land. Are you creating a "footed shaft" for esthetics or to change the properties for F.O.C., or more weight? Again, I certainly don't know but if it was just for a "cool" arrow I'd try and match up the spine for each as close as possible, then "fix" the weight issues during tuning. If it's for specific properties, I'd start weighing, spine testing, and playing around. No doubt, if the bacote is quite stiff it will have the effect of "shortening the cedar" and increasing the stiffness proportionately (alot). Don't mind theorizing, but I have no experience, just didn't want you to think you're alone on this post. I know there's a supplier that is well respected by the local traditionalists called "The Footed Shaft". Sure sounds like someone who knows a little about footed shafts. Here is the link, they're out of Minnesota. http://www.users.uswest.net/~footedshaft/

My buddy makes footed shafts I will ask him what differences he has seen.

the footing is super cool. but also keeps the shaft from snapping right behind the point. i am no wiz when it comes to arrows and spine wt and all. right now i am shooting 55-60# shaftes outta my 50# @ 29" psax. they are very sensitive to good form to say the least. i am sure they would break on impact if i were to try to bare shaft these. i think vernon has said that my bow should be shooting 75-80# for best arrow flight. i am open to any and all suggestions and experiences about these footed arrows.

Footed arrows are really tough. My buddy saw an immediate advantage when he went to footed shafts, especially at 3d shoots.
