I'm shooting a 62 inch PSA drawing 52lbs at 28 inches and was wondering what would I gain or lose changing to a 58 inch limb on a new bow.

Boomer, Approximately 4" in overall length......
I couldn't resist. Gain - More mobility in shooting, ie: treestands, blinds, tight quarters, etc.. Lose - Less forgiving, a little more pinch on the fingers, a little less speed, potential for a little more "stack". All of this pretty generic, but of course if you chose a different bow model there may be more differences or offsets to the norm. I'd say if you're looking for a more maneuverable compact bow, you should try one first to see if it affords you the overall performance you're looking for. Certainly at 28" draw length you should be able to go down "some" in length without too many draw backs.

I have a 60" TF my wife has a 58" SA and I also have a 62" PSA and I like the 62" PSA best - for treestands and blinds you are only talking two inches on either side of the bow - I was not going to hunt with my 64" PSA when I first got it - (so dangy nice looking) - but I like it so much - it is the only bow I shoot now - I have had no problems at all due to the length.

in fact - if they made a 64" or a 66" PSA I would buy one

Boomer I have done both. I did find the shorter bow a little better on the ground, in a stand, or in a blind. However, it is very possible to get away with the 62" as well. You will feel a slight difference, but you should be more than capable of making 20 yard shots with a 58" bow. The advantage of a 62" bow really becomes noticeable after 40 targets out to 30 yards on a 3-d range. I settled for 60" so I use the same bow for 3-d and hunting. They just happen to be made in various exotic woods. lol

So I was mistaken thinking a shorter limb would cast an arrow faster or harder. When I ordered my bow I didn't really know proper instinctive form and was shooting with a low anchor and what I thought was a 29inch draw. When I started shooting the correct way my draw length shortened up to 28 and I thought the limb length would cause some loss of performance not counting the few pounds of pull. The mobility isn't a problem but I did have to buy a Lone Wolf hand climber to clear the lower limb. I also like the chance of less finger pinch so I'll stick with a 62. Thanks

There was a post on here some months ago about a fellow who did his best to evaluate different limb lengths and the effect of arrow speed. If I recall correctly, he determined there was not a large amount of velocity difference, however his test (and specimens) indicated the 60-inch bow yeilded the trivially better velocity, but the 62 was almost right with it.
I have a 62, but would probably be just as happy with a 60. And if I had a 60, I would probably want a 62! Grass can seem always greener on the other side of that fence...but the real difference is the shooter.

I think it was Blacky who did that test, might be wrong. Grass is pretty green at 60" three times here, soon to be four.

This is the link to Blacky's post on PSA limb length speed.

Or just type in "limb length faster" in the search box.

Green grass since 1987 with my 60" HS Takedown. I agree with Polecat, the real difference comes down to you, me, and every other "shooter". I'd stick with what you have unless you "want" another bow, more maneuverability, or something just doesn't "fit or feel right". Nothing wrong with that!

I got a 62 inch PA, a 60 inch PSA, a 58 inch PSA and PA. when my release and form are going good, I like the 58 inch bows. When my release and form are not so good the 62 inch bow is in my hand.
As far as speed, can't tell the difference since all of them are 44 or 45lb at 28 inch.
