I have been setting here three days in a row with time all three to have gone for an afternoon/evening hunt.
I want to go bad, but the place I am hunting is fragile to say the least (for deer anyway. not pigs), so I know I have to give it a rest every few days.
I am chomping at the bit to go, but I know my hunting partner has gone every day but today, so I know the place needs a breather badly. He won't be there tomorrow, or through the weekend. So he says anyway.
I am debating with myself on whether or not to go tomorrow evening, or just wait till Saturday morning. I'm torn.
I slip in and out quietly, and never use the 4wheeler except to haul an animal out, but still.
What do you guys think? Go tomorrow evening, or wait till Saturday morning?

Rick,
That bruiser only comes out this Saturday afternoon,I would take Andys suggestion and hunt a different area then go in and kill that bruiser I keep seeing walking past your stand Saturday evening.

Rick, Only you can decide how much "negtive impact" you're having on your area. There's two schools of thought here. One is low impact, be patient if the deer is on a consistent "long term" pattern. Two is strike while the iron is hot, meaning stealth approach for a potential short term pattern. Personally, if I had the time to hunt and "options" I'd be hunting ....period. I like the "observation" stand/blind approach if it puts you in the game & increases your "intel" for the strike. I'd also let the wind dictate IF & WHEN. Sounds like Saturday Evening is a given ....wink

Theres an area on the west side of the property that hasn't been hunted at all. It's real thick on my side but the run up, and down the fence is pretty wide. It has a couple of places where the pigs, and deer have been crossing it, and I can walk in to it, and set up for the wind fairly easy on either trial.
Will have to use the ghillie, but thats a blast anyway, so I believe that is what I will do this evening.
I'll be able to set up ambush on the trail I choose, and also be able to watch up and down the fence row for 1/2 mile in either direction for activity for a potential setup for later.
Yep - I gonna be there. 8^)

your right about not "over hunting" an area but I say this, if you are wearing rubber boots and you are going in an out using a stick as a cane or doing something to not spook (or keep spooking) any deer and they honestly don't know your there and keep coming around then I say its fine to hunt it over and over.
if you start to see a change in the deer activity anything or if you keep jumping deer in and/or out then yeah its a good thing to give it a rest.

The best time to go hunting is when you have time to go hunting. Hunt different stands or in different ways but GO! Spend less time strategizing and more time in the woods....that is what works for me.:-) Look at it this way...you for sure are NOT going to get a shot at home: in the woods you might any day!

Well I went.
Got out there by 2:30 p.m., and found a real good trail, and fence crossing by 3:30, and was set up, and ready to rock.
Didn't see or hear anything, but from the vantage point I had, I don't think the animals moved at all this evening.
Right now I believe late mornings are going to be the best activity time. I'll find out tomorrow.
