Just dropped off my son at the airport to head back for San Diego where he will finish his combat training as a U.S. Marine. The past week he spent two days with me where we did nothing but talk with one another rememering hunts and trips from the past while we shot our bows. As a dad I tell you these were two of the best days of my life. Somewhere in the minds of a father a child can be frozen in time. He's been my little buddy for the past nineteen years and now he's a Marine. As we shot and conversed I found my mind flooded with wonderful memories from the past e.g. his first bow kill, shot at a deer, gave the old man a run for his money etc., but most importanly these memories were shared in the outdoors, around a shared passion and a stick and a string. I am confident that when the time comes for him to put down the M-16, he will cherish the opportunity life affords him to pick up a stick bow and remember the times spent watching the flight of the arrow. I am so greatful that I took the time to make the memories with my son. I'm already planning our hunt together next year. Memories!

I agree,my cousin shot his very first deer this past week with his muzzle loader at the young age of 42,I set up 4 tree stand locations and that one worked out.Im glad I was part of it and Lord willing I will be involved in my 5 year old Sons first deer.

Got to see my son kill his firsst deer when he was 14. He used an old Browning recurve that barely pulled 30lb. Jammed a Zwickey right in the back of that does head. I asked him where he was aiming and he answered "Deer's dead ain't it??"""
And Styk, please tell your son thank you. And that I pray the Good Lord keeps his hands surrounding him.

Styk, A big thank you to your son. He will be added to our thoughts and prayers list. I know how you must be feeling. My son just got out of the Marines as a Sgt. Infantry squad leader with 2 tours in Iraq. 1st of the 7th Suicide Charley. Its tough to send your buddy off like that but he'll be a better man when he gets home. Best of luck to you and your family. He will be home before you know it. My son and I are heading up to deer camp this week.

You may rest assured that I walk tall knowing that my son has chosen to serve his country. Thanks for the prayers. Sounds like we need to keep making memories with a stick and a string.
