Had a grouse come walking by me in my ground blind and decided to let the air out of it - I shot and hit him - he flew straight up in the air with my arrow sticking in him - it appears that the arrow hit the ground behind him and stopped a complete pass through. He flew away with my arrow sticking out of him - I could hear it hitting tree branches and stuff. I waited a bit and then went out to look for him - he flew away again with my arrow still in him! Went back the next day and looked all over the place and couldn't find him or my arrow.
Moral of the story - use a blunt tip or judo point for grouse. That cost me about $15.00 for the arrow, fletching, and broadhead!
Been there and done that. Ruffed flapping on the ground with my pink fletched flu flu clean thru him. As I bent to pick him up away he went with my arrow still thru him. Never found him or the arrow. FRJ
It's only $$$ .... I once, many many years ago, did not shoot at a doe that was standing on the edge of a cliff because I was concerned about losing my $1.50 arrow and broadhead. I still laugh at myself for that one.
